Course: Appetizer

Ingredients

  • For the fried goat cheese balls:
  • 10 ounces goat cheese
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs gluten-free or regular
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ cup cornstarch tapioca starch works too
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • ¼ cup avocado oil for frying
  • Honey to drizzle
  • For the mango dipping sauce:
  • 2 mangoes peeled and diced
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
  • Heavy pinch of salt
  • For the marinara:
  • ½ cup marinara sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chopped basil

Instructions

  • Roll 2 teaspoons of the goat cheese into balls. Place them onto a plate or flat surface and place them into the freezer for 30 to 45 minutes to firm up.
  • Add the breadcrumbs smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and cayenne to a bowl and stir to combine.
  • Once firm, roll the goat cheese balls in the cornstarch. Then, dip the coated goat cheese into the egg and let any excess egg drip off.
  • Roll the coated goat cheese ball into the breadcrumbs and coat them thoroughly.
  • Add the avocado oil to a pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the goat cheese balls to the pan. Cook on each side until they are golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes on each side.
  • Once browned, remove from pan and drain on a paper towel lined plate.
  • To make the mango dipping sauce, add all of the ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Additional salt to taste if desired.
  • To serve with the mango dipping sauce, smear some of the mango sauce onto a serving platter and place fried goat cheese balls on top. Drizzle with honey. Serve remaining mango dipping sauce on the side.
  • To serve with marinara dipping sauce, smear some marinara sauce onto a serving platter and place the goat cheese balls on top. Sprinkle chopped basil over top and serve the remaining marinara on the side.
