Blackberry Bramble

This Blackberry Bramble from The Whole Smiths can’t technically be called paleo, but if you are ok with paleo-ish, you’re gonna love it!

Blackberry Bramble from The Whole Smiths.

What’s up you crazy party people? What. You’re not party people? Hey… you’re the one who clicked over for a cocktail recipe, fair assumption on my part. Joking aside, you don’t need to be a “party person” to enjoy this refreshing Blackberry Bramble. My “party” days are long behind me but ending the week with a cool, refreshing cocktail will be something I do for years to come.

It wasn’t too long ago that my dear friend Heidi suggested I needed to bring back my Whole Smith (craft) cocktail hour. And you know what? She’s so right. She usually is. It’s been awhile, but this cocktail was worth the wait.

Here’s the run down on our craft cocktails if you’re new over here. 1. We use gluten free spirits 2.  No refined sugars or artificial flavors and colors. So in other words, the flavors come from real food! So if you’re going to choose to cocktail it up at least you know you aren’t getting bombed with artificial neon green syrups and fake strawberry daiquiris. Cool? Cool.

Usually I just post the recipe over on my Instagram page, but I’ve decided to start adding more of them to the blog since you all seem to like them so much. If you’re interested, you can pop over and check out the Spicy Grapefruit Margarita or the Dark + Stormy I created as well.

So let’s chat this Blackberry Bramble up a bit shall we? First off, it’s super easy. There’s no fancy techniques or tricks. It’s basically pouring shots, squeezing and mushing. And we don’t need an online bartending course to teach us that.

The only thing that might need a bit of explaining is in regards to the honey syrup. Instead of your traditional simple syrup that uses refine white sugar, we’re going with honey. It’s a 1:1 ratio. You boil 1 part honey to one part water. So 1/4 cup of honey boils down with 1/4 cup of water. Got it? Sweet. I suggest doing this part ahead of time so that it has time to cool before you add it to your drink. You can make a batch and save it for later to your tea the next morning.

This recipe will make two cocktails for you, which I figure is perfect. Because chances are you’re not drinking alone. And if you are, no one’s watching so drink two!

Enjoy amigos.
