Grain-free No'tmeal from the Whole Smiths. The perfect cozy dish to start your day! Paleo-friendly and gluten-free.

I can’t remember when I first started making this “oatmeal” it was out of desperation for something other than eggs for breakfast. Through the months since, I’ve added and changed it numerous times depending on what I had in my pantry. Sometimes, it was almond milk. Sometimes it was coconut milk. With honey, without honey. Maybe some place syrup. Sometimes it was a frozen banana instead of a regular banana. I’ve even tried it with pumpkin instead of a banana for a nice big FLOP of a breakfast. Don’t try that. It’s gross. Fortunately for you, through that trial and error, I’ve now perfected this No’tmeal recipe.

I’ve recently started adding it to my breakfasts in the morning on the side and I always get questions on Instagram about it so I decided to make the most perfect version of it and post it for you all!

A couple of recipe notes… I typically use the ground almond or cashew meal from Trader Joe’s, it’s perfect for this recipe. HOWEVER, when I went over the weekend to get some cashew meal I was told they discontinued it!! Say it ain’t so TJ’s!! Boo. With that being said, I know not everyone lives close to a Trader Joe’s anyways so you CAN make your own. You just need to grind them in a high powered blender until they are the consistency of a “meal”, soft and crumbly. So feel free to use either nut or you can mix it up as well half and half. Or use just almond. Your call.

And guys? Go easy on this. Nuts aren’t always great on digestion so I don’t suggest this as a breakfast to have every.single.morning. Got it? Good!

If you find yourself crazy for all things “no’tmeal”, make sure to check out my No’tmeal Raisin Cookies, they’re pretty bomb too. In fact, so many people have commented that they actually like them BETTER than regular ‘ol oatmeal raisin cookies. Pinky promise, but you’ll have to see for yourself.

I hope this makes your breakfasts a bit cozier in the mornings, enjoy!

  2. Thanks Michelle, I can’t wait to try this oatmeal. My husband is diabetic, is there anything to replace the banana for him?

  3. Amongst other things, I’m allergic to oats, gluten and bananas. But so many grain free breakfast recipes call for bananas. Do you now of any good substitute? I also am tired of the same eggs every morning. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  4. Hi there! This recipe looks amazing. Can it be made the night before and heated up the next day? How long can it last in the fridge?

  5. This stuff is amazing! It’s the first W30 “oatmeal” that I’ve tried that actually has the consistency of oatmeal. And it’s delicious! It kept me full for hours too. I’m doing a reset since getting back from vacation and am so glad I found this. Can’t wait to try your other recipes!

    1. Sex with your pants on. It’s the concept of not replacing things like cookies, french fries, etc with acceptable while30 versions because it perpetuates the emotional ties some people have with these foods. I don’t see this oatmeal fitting the bill to be honest. W30 Pancakes? Yes. W30 Oatmeal? Not so much. But SWYPO also varies by person and what they feel they eat habitually or emotionally. I personally never eat oatmeal so this wouldn’t be off limits for me. If you are obsessed with your morning oats to the point of overindulging, then you should avoid the substitute according to the W30 principles.

    2. It means “sex with your pants on”, so it’s not in the true spirit of W30, because you’re re-creating something, with some different ingredients, but it’s still like oatmeal.

  6. have you ever split it or made a bigger batch to keep in the fridge? It’s very filling (I used chia instead of flax cause that’s what I had and it was perfect).
There’s a lady in my office that complains about the smell of my eggs every morning so I’m sure she will be grateful I found this recipe too! Thank you!!!!!!

  7. Will the flax seeds be ground up after you blend them? I have diverticulosis, so, I’m suppose to stay away from seeds.

  8. This is my absolute favorite paleo oatmeal! The flavor is delicious and it hits the spot for me! My 1 year old also loves it! It is sweet, the texture is right, but doesn’t give me tummy troubles like regular oats do.

  9. I just started the whole30 and was looking for something warm, but not eggs. I really missed my oatmeal with fruit and greek yogurt. Then I found your recipe… SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! I may never easy oatmeal again. My husband tasted it and stole half.

Made a couple adjustments, used cashew butter(nothing added), didn’t have flax seed, but I had chia seeds instead, then instead of putting it through the blender, I just smashed/mixed with a fork. To me the lumpiness added a nice texture. Heated it a little longer too…

Wow, just wow! Thank you for sharing!!!

  10. Eeek – we’ve been enjoying this once a week as a break from eggs on our Whole30, so why would you consider this SWYPO for the program? I get the argument about Paleo pizza , “compliant” sweet snacks and other poor substitutes but I’m not sure why this breaks the spirit of Whole30.

  11. Can’t wait to try this! Do you think this would be OK to make in a larger batch ahead of time to reheat the morning of (I’m thinking make-ahead Mason jar no’tmeal)? Or would the banana go all yucky?

  12. Do you think this would work without the banana? I’m restricted to the below fruit.
    Green apples
    Berries
    Avocados
    Grapefruit
    Gogi berries
    Lemons
    Limes
    Fresh coconut

  13. I was recently diagnosed with severe hypothyroidism so I’ve had to make a drastic change to my diet. My supportive family decided to make the change with me but it has been really challenging for our 6 year old. This recipe was fantastic! She was bragging about it to her grandpa just now. PS if you haven’t tried it with peanut butter, do, it’s delicious!! Thank you!!

  14. This is what I did. Basically the same but instead of almond flour I used coconut (but they convert to do ratios). Omg I texted my whole family ab it afterwards

    2 tbps coconut flour.
    1/2 tsp cinnamon.
    1/2 cup almond milk.
    1 tbsp flaxmeal
    1/4 cup shredded coconut
    1 banana.

  15. Maria, did you add the peanut butter to the existing recipe or replace another ingredient with the peanut butter? I’m definitely interested. 🙂

  16. We are doing Whole 30 and I have an egg sensitivity. I have been looking for breakfast alternatives and found this! I made it today and, yum! My husband loves oatmeal and tried it and said he would definitely eat this and enjoy it!
    Thank you, Michelle!

  17. I’ve made this two times now and absolutely love it! I just have one question. Would it taste good if you made it in a big batch so you didn’t have to blend everything every morning? It would be nice to have it ready to take with me to work since I don’t have time to make it in the mornings on work days.

  18. This was delicious!! I added a little maple syrup cause I thought maybe it’d need it but no need really cause the banana had enough sweetness.
    Thanks for the great recipe.

  19. Oh my goodness!! I think this is the first time I’m writing a review on a blog!! This is utterly delicious!! My hubby is GF and loved it. I’m egg free and love it, my 9 year old loves it!!
It’s not often I come accross a recipe I feel I just have to share with everyone!! Thank you!!
