Iced Mason Jar Matcha Latte

two mason jars with healthy dairyfree matcha latte

This Iced Mason Jar Matcha Latte from The Whole Smiths is soon to be your new favorite afternoon beverage. If you can measure and shake, you can make this. Creamy, delicious and economical. Not to mention, it’s dairy-free!

I love me some fancy beverages. All sorts. From sparkling, to coffee, teas, kombuchas, you name it. I guess fancy is not the right word though, maybe “special” is a better word. I absolutely love the ritual of sitting down and sipping on something delicious that feels special. In fact, we have a second refrigerator in our garage that has become a mecca for all these types of drinks.

I will say, however I’ve really backed off from getting drinks at coffee shops these as I’ve come to realize they’re A. overpriced B. I can usually make them at home just as (if not more) delicious and C. they’re filled with lots of sugar and chemicals. This Iced Mason Jar Matcha Latte proves you no longer need a fancy shop preparing your favorite specialty drinks. #Sorrynotsorry coffee shops.

What is matcha?

If you aren’t familiar with matcha, it’s essentially powdered green tea leaves. I mean, it’s more complex than that but for brevity sake let’s call it that. Whenever I share this recipe on Instagram, I get a lot of messages asking, “What does matcha taste like?”. Well, it tastes like green tea. When you make it into a latte it tastes like a lightly sweetened, creamy green tea. Which is delicious.

Green tea has so many benefits and matcha and known to be a superfood has all of those benefits condensed down. It’s known primarily for it’s antioxidant properties. So not only can you enjoy how delicious this drink is you can also feel good knowing it’s good for you.

So let’s talk matcha. My absolute favorite comes from Pique Tea, they make a fabulous ceremonial grade matcha that is great for on-the-go. Not only is the taste phenomenal but it’s organic and quadruple screened for any toxins, mold etc. Feel free to head to their site to learn more.

With that said, you can use any matcha for this recipe, that one’s just my particular favorite. Amazon also has a great one from Matcha Bar and heck, even Costco has matcha these days (but if you’re looking for quality that one isn’t going to be your best choice).

Iced Matcha Latte accessories.

You’ll also need a mason jar. Or a shakable drink shaker sort of thing. But really, a mason jar is the easiest. You’ve bound to have some already in your pantry somewhere so you’re already a step ahead. What you may not have however are these great plastic lids that you can use on your mason jars. I love these. Those metal ones that come with the jars get rusty and gross, I love the ring etc. These ones are so much easier to manage.

On to how to make these… you add your ice, add your ingredients and pretend you’re Tom Cruise in Cocktail and SHAKE! Shake, shake, shake.

Then sip. That’s it! The world’s easiest Iced Matcha Latte for you.

What type of dairy-free milk works best with this recipe?

Personally I like a light coconut milk beverage, ie NOT a canned coconut milk. My favorite is the Real Coco brand which you can find on Amazon. I love that it’s organic and doesn’t have a heavy coconut flavor to it, just a hint. I also am a huge fan of it’s texture for this drink. Of course use your favorite almond, oat or soy milk as well.

What dairy-free creamer works best?

My favorite these days is from Nutpods. Hands down. I love the wide variety of flavors they have as well as various options. I usually will use the vanilla flavor in this one but the caramel oddly works really well too. They also have a line of oat milk-based creamers that I’ve been enjoying. But truly, any dairy-free creamer will work for you. In fact, ANY milk will. If you want to get crazy with it add some good ‘ol fashioned cream.

Tips

  • Shake the matcha well and a bit longer than you may think you need to. This will ensure the matcha is smooth and ice cold.
  • Add a bit of collagen to your matcha for extra nutrients!
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of maple you use in this recipe. Perhaps you prefer it a bit sweeter or with no sweetener at all. The amount in the recipe is just a starting point for you.

Delicious! I had only tried matcha one time before, in the latte format from St*****ks, and didn’t care for it. But I saw your recipe and went to our local organic market and got some and made this today and love it.

Seriously though! Let’s have a stinky convo, h Seriously though! Let’s have a stinky convo, huh? As soon as I started cleaning up my food perspective, cleaner personal care products came into my world as well. I didn’t even really think twice about it before but those worlds tend to collide. So here I am today not only mindful of what I put INTO my body (food) but the stuff I’m putting ONTO my body (products). Deodorant was the first thing I swapped as the ingredients and effects of traditional anti-perspirants were most alarming to me. But I was suuuuuuuper hesitant. I was not a person who rarely sweated. I was! In workouts or just through the day. I even carries a travel anti-perspirant in my purse during the day. And yeah, that end of day weird smell of anti-perspirant “powder fresh” scent mixed with whatever was goin on in my body was... not good. You KNOW what I’m talking about! So I was reeeeeeally hesitant about switching to cleaner products. But it really was the best thing ever. It took a some time, I’m not going to lie. It took time to fond the right ones that didn’t irritant my skin and ones that... actually worked! Today I use Beautycounter’s newly released refillable deodorants as well as Stank Stop from @fatco. I use both and honestly it pretty much comes down to which scent I’m favoring that day, that dictates my choice. They both work fab for me and don’t leave stains on my clothing, smell nice and don’t irritate my skin. And here’s what else, I do not sweat NEARLY as much as I used to. I was worried I would be a sweaty pig to put it lightly. But after time, my body adjusted and it’s really not even a problem. And no smell. It works! And here’s the thing... WE ARE SUPPOSED TO SWEAT PEOPLE! So when we wear anti-perspirant I can imagine that throws off our natural balance. So if you’ve been hesitant, give it a try! I linked to the Beautycounter deo in my bio and you can visit @fatco to try theirs out. Ask any questions in the comments and I’ll get to them for you. God bless the day I am talk about my body odor (or now lack thereof!) in a public forum. 🙄🥴 https://www.beautycounter.com/michellesmith3?goto=/clean-deo
Unh, ahh Sweet Potato ...Hash. An oldie but good Unh, ahh Sweet Potato ...Hash. An oldie but goodie. One of my first recipes to “go viral” was this Sweet Potato Hash. With good reason, it’s so freaking good! I made it multiple times a week in the early days of this website and it’s kinda trailed off for no good reason. Time to bring it back. I’m whipping up a batch tomorrow to use through the week, it reheats perfectly. Just make the hash ahead of time and fry an egg to throw on top day of. Recipe at the link in my profile. Where it started (our first picture together) and Where it started (our first picture together) and (swipe) how it’s going (Thanksgiving this year). 💛 Happy 11 years to Brad and I. The road hasn’t always been easy but I am so proud of the life and family we have built together. Not only do I love this guy but I really LIKE HIM TOO. He’s not only my husband but my bestie and a wonderful human (better than me for sure). I never thought I’d say this, but there’s no one else I’d rather be locked down with during a pandemic for 11 months. It’s a good thing we can entertain each other, grow together and while we may bicker at stupid stuff (like Brad’s SHOES LEFT ALL OVER THE HOUSE), we are always, always respectful of each other. If we can survive this year I think we can survive any upcoming alien invasion, zombie apocalypse or... I don’t know what’s left at this point. Sharknados? So very excited for our next chapter. Happy anniversary Bradley. ❤️
