Mint Chocolate Green Smoothie

I confess. You don’t find a lot of smoothies or shake recipes on this blog. And there’s a reason for that. I kinda suck at making them. #truth There I said it. I’m better at creating a full Thanksgiving spread than I am at making a smoothie. I know what you’re thinking, how can someone suck at making A SMOOTHIE when all you do is add everything to a blender?! Well, hear me out. Every time that I try to make a “healthy” smoothie I find that it’s comprised mostly of fruit (NOT what I”m going for) and it’s the worst mucky color in the world. You know that color, I call it the smoothie-fail-color. A murky mix of blueberries, spinach, strawberries and whatever else I scraped up. I’ve focused on swapping the fruit out and add in veggies to pack in those extra nutrients but I can never seem to get the right combination as the flavor comes out all sorts of wrong. Who knew bell pepper and banana didn’t really mix??

So when I was approached by SunWarrior to try out their Ormuz Super Greens Mix, I was intrigued. In the past, I’ve avoided smoothie supplements as the ingredient list left much to be desired. However, that wasn’t the case with SunWarrior as their list remained nice and clean. I’d be able to make a tasty smoothie with minimal ingredients and all of the nutrients without the funky color and taste? Well, I’ll be.

I was able to try out the “mint” variety and loved it. I decided amp up the mint flavor and create a smoothie that I knew the girls would love and I would feel good about giving them. Because seriously, who doesn’t love mint and chocolate? I wanted to keep this version fairly simple but recently I’ve also added in protein powder, ground flax and some nut butter to make it a complete breakfast for myself. The end result has been a hit with the entire family. It’s smooth and chocolate-y but fresh and minty and the cacao nibs make the girls feel like they’re getting an extra treat (i.e. some sort of chocolate?!) in their breakfasts.

It really does taste like a treat, even for me, and I’ve started looking forward to my mornings and being able to drink it up. Smoothie game ON guys!

Finally, the best part of all of this for YOU (besides an awesome new smoothie recipe of course!) is that you have a chance to win your own to try! Just scroll to the bottom of the recipe and enter to win.
