Sunbasket Meal Delivery

Over the last couple of years, I’ve had the chance to try several different meal delivery types of services. And in the course of full disclosure, I have to say I wasn’t a huge fan. However, I DID start hearing great things about SunBasket and when they approached me to try their service I decided to give meal delivery services one last try.

One of the problems that I found with the other services was that I couldn’t find an option that really reflected how I eat, which falls under paleo guidelines. Another issue included the quality of the ingredients and the size of the portions. I was so pleased to find that SunBasket offered a “paleo” option for their customers as well as ingredients that are organic and non-GMO and their meats are responsibly sourced and grass fed. In addition to a paleo option, they also offer gluten-free and vegetarian choices as well as breakfast choices.

The way that SunBasket works is that they send you the ingredients and recipes for three meals to feed 2-4 people at $11.49 per meal, which I find to be incredibly reasonable. Delivery is free and they are currently servicing California, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Oregon, Arizona, Nevada and Idaho. I believe they are heading east as well though, so stay tuned. Everything is delivered in one big insulated box and they offer free return shipping so that all of the packaging materials can be recycled.

On to the recipes, I found the recipes to be easy to follow and simple enough for anyone to make. However, the flavors of the meal were anything but elementary. The first shipment that I received contained the following meals: 1. Roast Chicken with Parsnips and Catalan Salbitxada Sauce 2. Roasted Pork Loin with Braised Kale and Pecan Aillade and 3. Winter Albondigas with Shredded Cabbage

I feel like I need to choose my favorite meal of the three but I really can’t because they were all equally delicious and easy to make. Some highlights include the Catalan salbitxada sauce which was loaded with so many flavors and paired really well with the richness of the roasted chicken. Think fresh, chunky tomato sauce. As far as the braised kale goes, I didn’t know braised kale could be THAT dang flavorful.

Clearly I’ve been making it wrong all along. But the good news is that I now have this incredible recipe for braised kale that I can go back to time and time again. Another bonus of SunBakset, you get to start collecting all of these amazing recipes!

As far as portions go, I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting smaller portions for some reason. Perhaps because I assumed due to the high quality of ingredients we’d be given less? But no, not at all. Each portion was enough to fill me up and then some. Had the food not been so delicious I might have been able to save some for the next day but it was all too good for that. So you’ve been warned, you probably won’t have leftovers. Not because of size, but because of deliciousness.

After my first delivery, I was happy to report back to SunBasket that I was hooked. I had another shipment scheduled and was ready with my camera in hand to share all of the goodness with my readers.

In this shipment I received the ingredients for recipes for:

1. Steak and Eggs with Tomato Cauliflower Rice

2. Pan Roasted Chicken and Sweet Potatoes with Olive Basil Sauce

3. Pork Loin with Pear-Date Chutney

See what I mean? How delicious do all of these meals look? Again, I can’t really pick a favorite because they were all equally delicious, but if you forced me to I would say that my favorite was the Pan Roasted Chicken with Olive and Basil Sauce. I’m a sucker for anything with olives.

I love the simplicity of SunBasket’s recipes and their focus on quality ingredients. The recipes are easy to follow for anybody and you’ll feel like a super star chef when you’re done cooking your meal.

I truly can’t wait to be use SunBasket again and will continue to do so over and over. While I can’t have SunBasket delivered to me every week since, well, my job is to come up with my own new recipes, I DO plan to use them for those weeks that I know I’m going to be swamped. Those are the times that I don’t have it in me to come up with clever, delicious, healthy recipes and I need some help.

I’m also planning to use SunBasket for when we head up to the mountains. I can’t tell you what a relief this is to me. Usually when we head up to the cabin I have to plan out each meal and pack up each ingredient including oils, spices etc. which as you can imagine is quite a haul and a pain in the rear. But moving forward, I’m just going to place an order for SunBasket and be on our way. Since everything you need is already included and portioned out, I won’t need to pack half of my pantry up just to get some healthy meals cooked up on the road. Brilliant right??

I also think Sun Basket would be great to order when you know you’re having company over as it keeps things simple so you can focus on entertaining. Not to mention your friends will think you’re a rock star chef by the end of the meal!
